Madison Montessori School – Madison, NJ
Description of the project: Genuine Art is a unique fund raising project created by the Madison Montessori School parents and teachers to raise money for their scholarship fund. I was approached by the Director after she viewed my work online. It didn’t take me long to say “yes” to this opportunity to work with this inspiring group of students! The experience started by speaking to the young preschoolers (ages 3 – 5) about being an artist and letting them in on the secret that they are all artists already! We then did a project together where the students all drew with colored pencils and oil pastels and used rubber stamps on tissue paper. I took their creations back to my studio in Massachusetts and created a work of art using their drawings and inspiration. The result was a true collaboration between the young artists and me. Finally, the piece was auctioned off at an art show at the end of the year. I was so proud of our efforts when the works brought in such a high price, making the scholarship fund very well provided for! |
